At CEMEX and Carib Cement, we believe that climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time and we support the urgency for collective action.

Worldwide, CEMEX has already achieved reductions for some cement products that exceed 40% of specific net direct CO2 emissions, by working for years to reduce the environmental impact of products and being committed to supporting mitigation and adaptation actions against climate change that derive from the Paris Agreement.

We, at Carib Cement, want to be an agent of change in limiting global warming to below 2°C and ensuring compliance with the UN Sustainable Development goals. In alignment with this, we have been working on developing a product to lower of carbon footprint to gradually replace our current Type I Ordinary Portland Cement, while maintaining the quality and performance of our products.

In line with this, we have launched our new product, called ‘Industrial Cement’, which would comply with the local standard JS320 Performance-based hydraulic cements Type Rapid Hardening, and international standard ASTM C1157 Standard performance specification for hydraulic cement Type High Early strengths (HE).

Vertua

The Vertua cement portfolio is a critical component of the company climate strategy, which includes the ambition to supply net zero emissions products globally by 2050. Vertua in cement brings together a new range of products that offer net direct CO2 emission reductions ranging from 15% to more than 40%, compared to the net direct emission of a traditional Type I OPC cement and are classified into 3 types: Classic, Plus and Ultra.

The launch of our HE low carbon cement is aligned with the Vertua strategy of the company, looking forward to having this product also awarded the Vertua Classic recognition in the upcoming months.

The Vertua Classic portfolio has a net specific emission lower than 698 Specific Net CO2 / t cement (equivalent), which equals a 15 – 25% reduction in CO2 compared to a traditional Type I OPC cement.

It is important to highlight that the characteristics for compressive strength and durability of the product are not altered with respect to traditional alternatives. It is the same cement with the same quality and performance, now with reduced carbon emissions.
