Caribbean Cement Company Limited (Carib Cement) recorded its highest-ever clinker and cement production in July, signaling a strong return on its J$6.7 billion investment in plant expansion and efficiency upgrades.
Just one month after completing the upgrades, Carib Cement produced 93,450 metric tonnes of clinker, surpassing the previous record of 89,600 metric tonnes. Cement production also soared to an unprecedented 109,682 metric tonnes, up from the former peak of 103,869, marking a combined increase of over 9,600 metric tonnes across both categories.
These record-breaking figures reflect the early success of the company’s investment in expanding capacity, improving efficiency, and strengthening Jamaica’s self-sufficiency in cement production.
“This is an encouraging achievement for Carib Cement and for Jamaica,” said Managing Director of Carib Cement, Mr. Jorge Martinez.
“This increase in clinker and cement production clearly indicates that our investment strategy is working. We are now in a stronger position to meet local demand by reducing our reliance on imports. At the same time, we are better positioned to explore export opportunities,” he continued.
Mr. Martinez also highlighted the wider economic impact of the company’s progress.
“This is not just a win for Carib Cement, it is a win for the Jamaican economy. Increased clinker production translates into greater local value creation and stronger support for national development initiatives,” he stated.
Carib Cement remains committed to playing a key role in national growth, while maintaining its focus on sustainability, operational excellence, and long-term value creation for all stakeholders.
The investment, which was first announced in 2022, was directed towards upgrading the plant and expanding production capacity. It was designed to improve operational efficiency, boost clinker self-sufficiency, and meet Jamaica’s increasing demand for cement.
