Caribbean Cement Company Limited has commenced work to upgrade the public baths at the Rockfort Mineral Bath Complex (RMBC) in East Kingston.
The project, which is set to take four months, began over a week ago following the successful completion of the procurement process for a contractor.
The planned work also includes the renovation of the public pool, seating areas, and sanitary facilities.
Managing Director of Caribbean Cement Company Limited, Mr. Jorge Martinez, emphasised the significance of the project in restoring the facility to its rightful place as a cherished asset for both Jamaicans and visitors to Kingston.
“This site holds immense historical and cultural value for the people of East Kingston and to the country.
This renovation is not merely about upgrading infrastructure but about preserving a treasured legacy while enhancing the experience for generations. We are ensuring that this iconic landmark remains intact, continuing to serve the community as a symbol of healing, relaxation, and history,” he said.
The company has also appointed its current Head of Finance, Mr. Anthony Jones, to oversee the operations of RMBC.
Since 2009, the Rockfort-based cement company has operated the complex and in May this year, signed a 25-year lease with the Jamaica National Heritage Trust and its parent body, the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport.
Over the next five years, Caribbean Cement Company Limited plans to invest a total of $57 million in significant repairs and upgrades to the facility.
